“Drawing David” is a public participation project, that interlinks photography and drawing. Every visitor of Kunsthalle Düsseldorf is welcome and invited to make a drawing from a photograph of a Chinese plaster copy of David’s head by Michelangelo – more or less like young applicants for a spot at Chinese art university at that time. Since the first “Drawing David” session 2015 in Chongqing, China, two more took place since then: 2016 in Düsseldorf also and 2018 in En Hod, Israel, land of the historical figure of David. A drawing event in Florence, Italy, is still planned at the location of the original David statue to close the cycle and finally make a book from the divers results of the four different geographic locations. In return for contributing and exhibiting their drawing in the Kunsthalle, all drawers are being photographed by Robert Pufleb in the same pose like David. The photographic portraits are also exhibited until Sunday and will then be given to the portrayed.
