On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Joseph Beuys' death on 23 January, the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf is honouring the world-famous artist with a large-format film projection on the building's exterior façade. The film “Soziale Plastik” (Social Sculpture) by experimental filmmaker Lutz Mommartz will be shown, which he made in 1969 of his artist colleague Joseph Beuys. This world-famous film work without sound, which is currently part of the exhibition “mommartzfilm 1964 – 2020. Premiere & Werkschau” at the Kunsthalle, is still not accessible to the public due to the Corona pandemic. Kunsthalle director Gregor Jansen is all the more pleased now to show the work in the outdoor space for a current occasion: “Joseph Beuys is one of the most important artists of the 20th century and his connection to Düsseldorf and the Kunsthalle was very close. For this reason, we would like to convey the artist's closeness to the Kunsthalle and the city to the outside world, especially in Beuys Year 2021, the year of his 100th birthday.”
