Let’s Talk About…! is a joint project of the volunteers of the Kunsthalle and KIT – Kunst im Tunnel.
In the current exhibition “13 MORGEN”, the two artists Jana Buch and Thea Mantwill take us on a literary journey through an entire century. The total of 13 stations in KIT are designed like rooms of a house. We are invited to take a seat and explore the publications laid out there. Each one is set in a different year: While the garden with pictures dug out of the cellar encourages us to linger in 1952, we are confronted with contemporary problems of 2024 in the kitchen.
In the stairwell, on the other hand, the year 2052 seems to herald a dystopian-looking vision of society’s future, in which the gap between rich and poor is growing ever wider…
Unlike in classic dystopian narratives, Jana Buch and Thea Mantwill give female voices a space. They discuss topics such as digitalization, isolation, artificial intelligence, doomscrolling, fear of commitment, consumption and radicalization. Which themes listed by the artists will we probably expect in the future?
We will explore these and other questions in a joint visit to the exhibition. Afterwards, we will review our impressions over a drink at the KIT Café. Do you know other literary examples in which frightening futuristic dystopias are foretold? Let’s talk about them!
