Small animals that trigger a strong attraction in the viewer*: The painter Melanie Loureiro combines them in her intense depictions of oversized plants and insects to create almost oppressive tableaux. She gives a colorful, detailed and sometimes fantastical voice to vegetation that has been silenced by monoculture and selective breeding, bringing us closer to the life and work of caterpillars, butterflies and spiders as if we were looking at them under a microscope – and getting closer to them in size.
