Swinda Oelke
Four Places

The starting point for Swinda Oelke’s experimental publication Four Places is the question of how a video-based artistic practice in which movement and space form central elements can be transferred into a book format. Through its binding and layout, Four Places understands the book itself as a spatial object. Together with artist Christian Löffel, Swinda Oelke developed the publication, which covers four of the artist’s exhibitions: Echo, Signal, Node and Collocarsi. The publication is accompanied by a text by Marie Luiza-Georgi.

In the evening, there will be a discussion with Christian Löffel and Marie-Luiza Georgi.

Julia Gruner
Universal Azo Fizz – Eine Dekonstruktion

If you want to paint, you need paint – it’s as simple as that. Julia Gruner (born in 1984 in Lüdenscheid), who graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 2015 as a master student of Katharina Grosse, uses a different palette in her ‘Domestic Paintings’, such as Bilou Sweet Galaxy shower gel, Dontodent Junior Learning Effect mouthwash, Dresdner Essenz Pure Calm bath concentrate, or treaclemoon One Ginger Morning cream shower. The various substances are applied to the surface of a scanner and react chemically with each other. The ephemeral paintings captured in the scan arouse curiosity about the industrially manufactured products we use every day, which are perfectly tailored to every situation in life and about whose ingredients and manufacturing processes we know very little.
The four-part publication Universal Azo Fizz – Eine Dekonstruktion, published by Snoeck Verlag as part of the annual artist book series Kienbaum Artists’ Books, contains the scans along with the ingredients and a detailed description of the dyes they contain.

In the evening, there will be a discussion with Julia Wedlich (curator of the Kienbaum Collection).

Ulrike Muenchhoff
Ihr Spinnen – Jetzt!

The artist catalogue Ihr Spinnen-Jetzt! by Ulrike Muenchhoff documents a series of paintings from 2013–2025. Cross-references within the series and beyond reveal connections and relationships in terms of content and form. The works combine formal and content-related contrasts, often inspired by everyday objects, drapery and found objects. They vary between abstract and figurative interpretations. The interplay of image and background creates complex areas of tension and diverse interpretations. The series ‘Cut & Go’, ‘Splitter, Scherben und Friese’ and ‘Ghostships’ in particular raise socially relevant feminist issues and reflect on questions of power and attitude. Painting and performative elements are combined within an expanded concept of art. Overall, the exhibition offers an insight into an artistic practice that combines formal and aesthetic diversity with socially critical reflection and an allegorical and poetic search for meaning. With a text contribution by Dr. Frauke Tomczak, Düsseldorf.

In the evening, Ulrike Muenchhoff will present the performance ‘Motivational Dance – My Creative Summer’, followed by a catalogue presentation in conversation with Myriam Thyes (artist, artistic director of Malkasten Düsseldorf).
