Performance by Fari Shams together with Every house has a door
The artist Fari Shams presents the interactive, performative installation Junkology, created in collaboration with the collective Every house has a door. The installation playfully brings together private, imaginary and public spaces and aims to encourage reflection on the relevance of play in our digital society.
A spiral floor grid numbered 0–9 becomes the game board. Around it, 9 modular forms—half furniture, half everyday objects—wait to be activated. Participants draw numbers from coloured envelopes, determining where each piece will be placed. Performers assist in the assembly, transforming functional objects into structures for play, conversation, and reflection. Interventions of text—philosophical, poetic, pedagogical—punctuate the game at four points, expanding its scope from the material to the conceptual.
The playground is built live by Bryan and Jake Saner, a father-and-son duo whose choreography of labour, play, and care evokes an unmechanized form of making—physical, cooperative, and improvisational.
