Energetic forms conquer space
In his practice, sculptor Michael Dekker (born in 1983 in Ludwigshafen; lives and works in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf) combines natural form processes with architectural thinking, in which space, volume and movement in place and time represent important categories. From found, cut and bent materials, he develops large-format sculptures that embody both construction and movement. Dekker’s forms and structures spiral upwards in organic arcs and swings and seem to be driven by changes in direction.
Liquid is Michael Dekker’s first monograph and offers a comprehensive overview of his work over the last 15 years. Essays by Prof. Dr. Thomas A. Lange, Kay Heymer and Jörg Mascherrek place his work in the tradition of modern sculpture and emphasise the relevance of rhythm and music.
In the evening, there will be an artist talk with Mara Sporn (independent curator in Düsseldorf and Paris, founder of Empty Spaces). An edition accompanying the book will also be published and selected sculptures will be presented.
