Performative reading
The reading takes place in the work Junkology by Fari Shams.
How permeable or interwoven are public and private spaces? What factors define for us personally the place where we want to be (together)? And what significance does the design of our everyday living environment have in this context? Based on these questions, author and art historian Christina Irrgang interacts with the objects, images and words of Fari Shams’ installation Junkology. Irrgang reads text fragments and quotations from Ann Lee, Simone Weil, Hannah Arendt, Eileen Gray, Allan Kaprow, Andrea Zittel, Jia Tolentino and others.
Thought and action, the individual and the collective, the limitation of meaningful work and empowerment through conscious limitation become coordinates on a playing field that offers diverse perspectives on life. But theories and visions alone do not cover reality. In a performative act, the excerpts become a guide for entering into an exchange of ideas about the self and the we.
