Kunsthalle Art Book Fair

Between Books, the first Art Book Fair at Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, will take place from November 9 to 12, 2023!
At Between Books, independent art book publishers, artists, independent publishing/DIY collectives, organizations, associations, zines, magazines, are invited to present themselves to a broad audience in the exhibition spaces of Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and to show how versatile, exciting and contemporary the medium of books can be.
The main focus will lie on the local and regional publishing scene, but protagonists from all over Germany and neighbouring European countries will also be represented.
The art book fair will be accompanied by an exciting accompanying programme with book presentations, lectures, talks, performances and workshops.
Between Books will be both a meeting place for discourse on (art) books, alternative forms of publication and publishing as a practice, and a place to discover, browse and meet.
The deadline for participation was August 10, 2023. Please note that we cannot consider applications made after the deadline.
Opening Hours Between Books:
Thursday, November 9, 2023, 5 – 9 p.m.
Friday – Sunday, November 10 – 12, 2023, 12 – 7 p.m. each day.
(Duration of the supporting program may be longer).
Admission and participation in the accompanying program is free of charge.

Albert Coers shows a broad spectrum of artists’ publications with a focus on works with found objects and linguistic material, including Books to Do, Hatje Cantz, 2022, a meta-book of realised and yet-to-be-realised book projects, in the form of a to-do list.
Annegret Frauenlob

AVARIE / Labor Neunzehn
Independent, specialized in art books with a transversal perspective on texts and images, Avarie sees books as a space of creation in close collaboration with the artist and graphic designer, at the outskirts of commercial production, intending to show the artistic process as a trace of (dis)appearance. Beatrice von Babel
Beatrice von Babel is an artistic body with a mixed identity: sublime versus chaos. BvB manifests itself through constantly changing works and intense performances, various acoustic and dynamic installations, electronic and experimental live music performances, and extensive workshops.
BOM DIA BOA TARDE BOA NOITE
BOM DIA BOA TARDE BOA NOITE means “good day, good afternoon, good night” in Portuguese. The name conveys the idea that books can become an integral part of our daily lives – regardless of the time of day. BOM DIA BOA TARDE BOA NOITE is a small independent publishing house, a community of artists, graphic designers, authors, curators, cultural workers and craftsmen. We specialise in artists’ books that are conceived as part of a work of art or as the work of art itself. We try to play with the format of the book and reflect its medium. All our books are produced in close collaboration with the artists themselves.
Buchdrucklabor

c8400 (Eschborn) is a number in hexadecimal format. Since 2002. Offered are artist books and zines that explore the semiotics of transactions, often with consumerism and office work as the starting point of the artistic research process.
Carrier collective

Daniela Risch & Thomas Buts
Daniela Risch & Thomas Buts have been working as a non-hierarchical two-person collective since 2021. They work with painting, photography, video and installation, analogue and digital. Their different approaches are added or subtracted according to the common task.

duesseldorf-editionen was developed as an artistic intervention and low-threshold publishing idea in 2020 in the spirit of cultural equality: For artists and authors, initially mainly from the greater Düsseldorf area. It presents an inhomogeneous and changing group of artists and socially motivated art publications, some of which are linked to performances, literary projects (www.interpoetry.de) or readings.

Esra von Kornatzki
Esra von Kornatzki is an interdisciplinary artist who often resorts to the medium of the artists’ book and explores its boundaries. She usually combines autobiographical and documentary images in them. Haptics and format expand the content and let it take on sculptural qualities.
Estelle SO
Estelle SO, an artist, weaves tales from different times and cultures through Korean themes. With a focus on modern reinterpretations of traditional Korean folk art, she explores the fusion of vibrant folk painting symbolism with narratives spanning fairy tales, myths, and legends.
Fair Enough
Under the banner of “Fair Enough”, the four independent Swiss publishing houses Boabooks, edition fink, Jungle Books and tria publishing platform collaborate in the field of promotion and distribution and participate jointly in book fairs.

Since 2001, Fantôme has stood for almost imperceptible interactions, for fluid transitions between visual art, research, film, literature, cultural studies, music, media history and pop.
FH Dortmund FB Design

In her artist’s books, Jennifer Eckert refers to the book as a concept and space, exploring the resulting possibilities of the transmission of language with reference to time, process and combinatorics in terms of its form.
Jörg Baier
Jörg Baier is a visual artist working on paper with painting, drawing, collage and photogram. The artists’ book represents an extension of his images into space. His books, essentially leporellos with a storage box, can be unfolded and used in various configurations. They form composed and variable landscapes and architectures as well as models for monumental stage sets.
Johannes Bergerhausen, Ilka Helmig
Ilka Helmig, artist, and Johannes Bergerhausen, designer, publish their work as books, catalogues, artist’s books and editions. They teach as professors in Aachen and Mainz and live in Cologne and Paris.
Klasse John Morgan

“The Konschthal’s catalogues, books and artists’ projects are a continuation of the institution’s programme, its exhibiting projects and realisations since its opening in 2021.
The Konschthal Esch offers a selection of works (monographs, thematic exhibitions).
