Between Books
Kunsthalle Düsseldorf Art Book Fair

3 Days
90 Exhibitors
25 Workshops, Talks & Performances

After two successful editions in 2023 and 2024, Between Books will take place for the third time at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf from September 19 to 21 2025!

Independent art book publishers, artists, independent publishing/DIY collectives, organisations, associations, zines and magazines will present themselves to a wide audience in the exhibition rooms of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and show how versatile, exciting and contemporary the medium of books can be.
The focus will be on the local and regional publishing scene, but protagonists from all over Germany and neighbouring European countries will also be represented.

This year, for the first time, the exhibitors were selected by a jury consisting of: Stefan Marx (artist), Lea Szramek (Kettler publishing house), Daniel Seemayer (Department of Typography, Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences), Juliane Hoffmanns (curation & exhibition realisation, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf) and Alicia Holthausen (acting artistic director, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf).

The art book fair is accompanied by an exciting and interactive supporting programme:
In numerous workshops, visitors can create their own zines, learn how a Riso printer works, bind a notebook, learn writing techniques or make their own stickers. Performances and talks will reveal how beautiful books are created, how to start your own publishing house, the connection between music and words, and what rebellious publishing means.
And at the Between Books Bar in the Salon des Amateurs, visitors can browse through their latest acquisitions while enjoying music and drinks or chatting with other book enthusiasts.

Between Books is both a meeting place for discourse on (art) books, alternative forms of publication and publishing as a practice, as well as a place to discover, browse and get to know each other.

Opening hours Between Books:
Friday, 19 September 2025, 3 – 9 p.m.
Saturday, 20 September 2025, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday, 21 September 2025, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Admission and participation in the supporting programme are free of charge.

      Notebook Binding
      Studio

Within 15 to 20 minutes, you will bind a notebook using the 3-stitch thread knot binding technique. You will get a feel for working with paper by hand and learn about folding and binding techniques so that you can bind more notebooks at home. No prior knowledge is necessary.

      DIY Screen Printing
      Seitenlichtsaal

Screen printing is a game of permeability: where the fabric remains free, the ink flows through; where it is blocked, a void is created. In this workshop, the process is demystified and reinvented at the same time, with simple materials, open motifs and plenty of room for experimentation. Paper, fabric found objects – almost anything can become a medium for your prints.

INTERVALLVERLAG

Literature. Art. Sound. These are the three wide-ranging
territories explored by INTERVALLVERLAG, founded in
Cologne in 2021. We are particularly interested in the
spaces between, the intervals and overlaps between
these areas. Metaphors that give voice to the unseen.
Visual languages that make the unspeakable visible.
Notations that give voice to the sonic dimension. All this
in carefully edited and designed publications. Photo: INTERVALLVERLAG
