For the 25th edition of the project series MUR BRUT, Jennifer Pint has created a work for a wall in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf parking garage at Grabbeplatz 4.

The question of the constitution of space has run through a wide variety of disciplines for centuries, and yet remains an abstract concept. In cultural-anthropological research, it is treated as culturally constructed and is thus dependent on people.

For MUR BRUT 25, Jennifer Pint deals with space and its relationship to the body and movement. The parking garage retains its relevance as a place of constant movement, as an uninviting transit zone, which here serves to investigate the subjective constitution of space.

The focus of the work negotiating space is the relationship between space, the body, and movement. How are the material and symbolic nature of a space defined, and how are spatial phenomena influenced?

The installation inquires into the real and metaphorical location of the individual in space and the relationship between the two. How is this transformed by movement? A line-like sculpture connects the ceiling, wall, and floor of the parking garage, feels its way into the space, and emphasizes its specific dimensions. Other objects on the wall correspond to the sculpture, implying physicality, and thus renegotiate the space.

Jennifer Pint studied fine art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and graduated in 2022 in Martin Gostner’s class. Her often intricate installations subtly and poetically address social phenomena, the subjectivity of identity and society, as well as time and space.
