The MUR BRUT project series has been implemented on a white-painted wall in the parking garage of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf since 2014. Since then, this wall, which has been removed from the visual concept of the parking garage, has served as a projection surface for quarterly changing art projects.
In her project Good Company, the artist Nura Afnan-Samandari returns the wall to the parking garage by replacing the covered stripes in blue and black in their original place. She exchanges this area intended for her work for smaller, then repurposed areas that are spread across both parking decks and the outside space: glass boxes and aluminum frames that are normally intended for the placement of advertising posters for the Kunsthalle and the Kunstverein.
In her artistic work, the artist herself says, it is important to her to give others space; also space for her own ideas. She developed her work in conversation with her friends, the exhibiting artists, and thus created a communal space on an abstract and concrete level.
At the same time, she gives visitors the opportunity to spatially experience the architecture of the parking garage and its surroundings by visiting the works distributed in and around the building.
Nura Afnan-Samandari graduated from the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Professor Sabina Fritsch in 2024.
