For MUR BRUT 14, Konstitutiv der Möglichkeiten will design a wall in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf parking garage.

The collective practices artistic “self-branding” under the theme “couple goals,” a popular hashtag used mainly on Instagram for couples who seek the spotlight. The artists will turn the wall into a space for presentation in which the relationship between public perception and the duo’s constructed image is negotiated.

They deliberately use means of disorientation – for instance, in the choice of background, a wooden paneling that alludes to the often unsophisticated decoration in clubhouses. The symbolic connotation of bourgeois tackiness contrasts strikingly with the underground parking garage and the artist duo’s progressive attitude.

This is augmented with the supposed archival materials that document shared successes and experiences. This staged experimental arrangement leaves room for ambiguities and alternative truths in its virtual character.

Konstitutiv der Möglichkeiten was founded in the spring of 2017 by the artists Nina Nick and Valerie Buchow. Nina Nick studied under Prof. Rosemarie Trockel and Prof. Franka Hörnschemeyer at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and graduated in 2019. Valerie Buchow studied sculpture at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Prof. Didier Vermeiren, Prof. Jürgen Drescher, and Prof. Martin Gostner, and also graduated in 2019.
