Kaspar Stöbe. OFF GRID
MUR BRUT 15

Opening: Friday, 11 October 2019, 5 p.m.

For MUR BRUT 15, Kaspar Stöbe will design a wall in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf parking garage.

Kaspar Stöbe’s examination of the specific context of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf as a meeting place for various cultural institutions and the question of the interaction between the artwork and its place of representation culminate in the wall installation OFF GRID. The satellite dish installed on the MUR BRUT wall as well as other dishes installed on the outer boundaries of the building indicate the imaginative sphere in which the artist has enveloped the building. The center of this sphere—as well as the center of the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf—is located on the second-floor staircase in the exhibition area and is connected to the global network of geodetic reference points. In this way, from the micro-level of the sphere around the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Stöbe connects this exhibition space via the reference point to the global macrocosm.

Stöbe radicalizes this representation space by intervening in the GPS signal that can be received in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, thus shifting the position of the building over the course of the exhibition. He translates his imaginative sphere into a production field that questions the credibility of digital information in a post-truth society.

Kaspar Stöbe studied architecture at TU Delft and ETH Zurich. In his studio in Düsseldorf, he develops projects at various scales and in different transdisciplinary constellations. He has a special interest in the world shaped by structures. These structures are the inspiration for works that span speculative, political, spatial, conceptual, and virtual logic.

The exhibition is open twenty-four hours a day. Duration: 12 October 2019 – 12 January 2020
