Paulina Hoffmann. Verbund und Wärme
MUR BRUT 17

Paulina Hoffmann
Verbund und Wärme, 2020

For MUR BRUT 17, Paulina Hoffmann has designed a wall in the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf parking garage.

Paulina Hoffmann’s works always seem as if they could start moving or are on the cusp of a physical transformation. They remain open and continue to develop over time. Some of her works are composed of grass and plastics, forming technical and vegetative systems of (in)organic matter. Due to the exhibition lighting, they seem to be pulled into a flow of movement that produces something new out of the experimental installation. Other works react to the slightest changes in the environment, so that the presence of the viewer inevitably triggers a movement or an action in them.

For the parking garage at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Paulina Hoffmann has developed a group of sculptures that consists of four individual, unfolded lengths of synthetic fabric. These are each pressed against the wall by a flat steel element. This results in light structures whose physical and technical gestures develop a homogeneous rhythm through regular intervals.

Paulina Hoffmann studied sculpture under Jürgen Drescher and Lothar Hempel at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where she graduated in 2019 as a master class student of Lothar Hempel.

Opening: Saturday, 5 September 2020, 5–7 p.m.
Kunsthalle Düsseldorf parking garage, Grabbeplatz 4, 40213 Düsseldorf
